5 Ways To Make The Most Of December (No Hustle Required)

Instead of taking on too much, here are our favorite ways to relax and enjoy the season.

December is typically a busy month for working women. While it’s a time of gathering with loved ones and celebrating the year with coworkers and friends, it can be hard to balance it all without burning out. To make sure you’re in good shape for the holidays, it’s important to take some time to get clear on your values and what is important to you. When you know what matters most, you can much more easily let go of the rest.

Let’s look at 5 ways to make the most out of December.

1: Reconnect with people in your network

While the end of the year isn’t a time to start new projects, it is a great time to reach out to the people in your network you’ve lost touch with. Reconnecting is a great way to find support during the holidays, and plant some seeds for what is to come in the new year.

2: Prepare for time off

Many of us have the luxury of a long break for the holidays at the end of the year. To ensure you don’t come back to a mountain of work that will overwhelm you, make sure you’re prepared. That means when you’re off you should REALLY be off. No running off to check emails, or keeping your work phone on you. You should be able to unplug and RELAX.

3: Express gratitude

While being busy with work can feel overwhelming, it’s important to take a second to express gratitude for what you have. It doesn’t only have to be work related, but think about everything in your life that you’re grateful for. The holidays are an excellent time to take stock and remind yourself why you do what you do.

4: Practice saying no

December is a time for relaxation, but also social obligations. Sometimes it feels like everyone you know is having a party every single day of the week. On top of that, you may also have additional family obligations, travel, and the task of making the holidays “magical” for those around you. Whatever the case may be, remember it is always alright to say NO.

Don’t give in to your tendency to try to please everyone. Your neighbor’s Secret Santa party might sound fun, but you need to know your limits. Sometimes a night in by yourself with a hot cup of tea will be worthwhile when you’re feeling burnt out. There will always be other parties.

5: Take time for reflection

When life gets busy, we tend to forget where we’ve come from. As the year ends, taking time for reflection is another important thing to help make the most out of December. If you like to journal, writing down your reflections can be helpful. Think about where you were when the year started, and what’s happened since then. You’ll be surprised at how far you have come.

Closing Thoughts

You’ve worked hard this year. It’s time to take a load off and relax. Make sure you’re prepared for your time off, and take time for yourself. Remember to say no when it’s too much, and reflect on the year to get you ready for what’s to come!
